Where Have I Been?

What I have been up to since going dark on Medium.

If you found me years ago and still follow me, thank you. If you don’t remember who I am but I’m now showing up in your “recommend” list, you probably subscribed based on something I wrote back in 2019 and you wanted to hear more of what this random Black chick who is her husband’s Manic Pixie Dream Girl had to say and I probably let you down by not writing anything for months.

So where did I go, and where have I been?

I’ve been working on a few feature documentaries

I started transiting into more post-production roles when a friend of mine approached me to finish a short narrative film directed by our late mutual friend. That was a few years ago. While I enjoy being on a set and doing things in the real world, I’ve fallen in love with documentary filmmaking, and the storytelling documentary editing allows. While the “Golden Age of Documentary” may be over as streamers cut costs and hold out on strike demands, I feel more comfortable being in the documentary world than any other aspect of filmmaking. Watching a story come alive in the edit is rewarding.

Documentary editing is time-consuming and tedious, however, which means I need to fill my self-care cup more often, especially when working on…
