I’m not an essential worker. I’m one of the fortunate workers out there who already do a certain amount of work remotely and therefore can adapt to the new normal. Other shooters may not be so lucky and are struggling with keeping afloat with the new shelter-in-place orders.

My business is a luxury. Some other photographers and filmmakers realize that. After all, our industry has existed for less than 200 years. That means human beings can live without it. As much as I want to wax poetic about capturing crucial moments, the importance of storytelling, or quality imagery in business and social media, the bottom line is that photography and videography services are not as necessary as healthcare or infrastructure.

“But I using a long lens and keeping six feet away.”

Not good enough. You should be canceling and rescheduling. By continuing to do things like “porch” settings or shooting seniors with a 200mm focal length you are trivializing shelter-in-place…
